Every business has its own unique computing requirements and the Dell Precision T5500 takes that into consideration at every turn including the selection of processors. The basic unit comes with a highly capable Dual Core Intel Xeon processor running at 1.86GHz. There are multiple levels of upgrade clear up to a Quad Core Intel Xeon processor clocking in at 3.33GHz. While that’s likely to be enough power to satisfy most users, you can choose to essentially double the power by choosing dual Xeon processors, i.e. two of them, ranging from two Dual Core CPUs at 1.86GHz up to dual Quad Core Xeons at 3.33GHz.

The base package comes with 2GB of DDR3 memory but can be expanded to 4GB. With dual processors installed, you can move up to a whopping 72GB of memory using up to 9 DIMM slots; 6 on the motherboard and an additional 3 on an additional 2nd processor riser.

If you need monster storage, the Dell Precision T5500 has is just the ticket. While the basic hard drive that’s included in the base package is not overly impressive at 80GB, there are numerous upgrade options that will take you all the way to 1.5TB. But that’s just the beginning. Up to five such hard drives can be included in the workstation totaling a massive 7.5TB. Not at all long ago numbers like that were unthinkable be now they’re well within reach for power users.

Typical of workstation installations, monitors are not included in the package but you can add some top notch ones that measure up to 22-inches diagonally…and you can install up to four of them on this workstation.

Video cards are critical for many users of workstations like the Precision T5500 and this one comes standard with a 256MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS295. As with most other features, there a multiple upgrades available. 3D graphics super users can go clear up to dual 4.0GB NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 cards.

Dell provides a 3-year limited hardware warranty including next business day on-site service by Dell-certified technicians following remote diagnosis. Optional ProSupport for either IT or end-users is also available as are accidental damage coverage, asset recovery and Custom Factory Integration services.

Summary:

Dell Precision T5500 workstations are specifically designed for graphics-intensive professionals who need lots of processing power. Nonetheless, they’re small in size and the prices begin at very reasonable levels. Typical of high-end computers, adding options can increase prices substantially but the flexibility that is afforded by the easy customization process allows users to buy just exactly what they need. Dell’s customer support is consistently among the best and the Precision T5500 is a great option for many businesses.
