When it comes to graphics and stability, the Mega Special 1 can handle any game that you throw at it. This gaming PC comes complete with one of the best video cards on the market and offers smooth and seamless cinematics as well as game play. While it may not have as much RAM as the Alienware Area-51 ALX or the iBUYPOWER Paladin F875, it is equipped with a cutting-edge AMD processor and a liquid-cooled CPU to keep everything cool while you’re under fire. With the added bonus of a Blu-Ray compatible optical drive, this PC can keep you entertained even when you’re not gaming. The model we reviewed was the base model, but with the upgrades of the Blu-ray player, the 750-watt power supply, the ATI 5870 HD video card and the GigaByte GA-790XTA-UD4 motherboard. These additions could add another 500 dollars to the base price.

The Mega Special 1 is equipped with an ATI Radeon HD 5870 video card, which is the same card that the Alienware Area-51 ALX PC has. However, it only has 1GB of video memory, which means that your PC’s RAM will have to be accessed more than those that have 2GB. This may not make a difference to the average gamer, but it can bottleneck information and slow down the more serious gamers with the larger-scale games. The sound card supports 7.1 channel audio which means that dialogue, music and sound effects can come at you from all angles.

This PC also features the unique AMD Phenom II X6 processor. The revolutionary design of this CPU enables smooth functioning even while running complex programs. This processor is a bit slow at 2.8GHz, but that’s still enough for high-definition entertainment. The addition of a liquid cooling system for the processor offers cool, whisper-quiet operation.

Memory/Storage:

While many gaming computers offer 6GB of RAM and some even offer triple-channel memory configurations, 4GB of DDR3 RAM is all you’re going to get with the Mega Special 1. While it does offer an option for expansion, you’ll still only able to run in dual-channel mode – which can be frustrating for some people. The hard drive is a spacious 1TB, which is a must for all the games and movies that require large amounts of storage.

Additional Features:

Along with the Blu-ray player, the cool blue Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 motherboard is a distinctive part of this PC. With high-speed data transfer powered by a 750-watt power supply, this motherboard makes sure everything runs smoothly. Plus, it features the first USB 3.0 logo certified host controller from NEC electronics and has 3 USB ports.

Support/Warranty:

The Mega Special 1 comes with online support and phone support, so you’ll be able to get help from professionals whenever you need it. Along with that support, there is also a community forum where you can talk to peers about questions or problems you may be having. This PC also comes with a three-year limited warranty on labor and a one-year warranty for parts.

Summary:

The downsides of this Mega Special 1 are not going to be readily visible to the average gamer. It has sufficient power, processing speed and memory to keep everything running smooth on almost any game that you’re playing. However, this review is based on the model with the enhanced motherboard and video card, so the base model, though less expensive, may not be as seamless. The price tag affixed to the model we received was significantly lower than many of the gaming PCs we reviewed, making this machine an exceptional value.
