There are a lot of factors that make up a good home computer. While there's not one single computer that's best for everyone, some systems just have the right combination of powerful hardware and easy-to-use features. With the Acer Predator G3, you get a lot of storage space, plenty of RAM, and a speedy processor. The one downside we can see to this particular desktop computer is that it doesn't come with a Blu-ray player. This can be easily fixed but will cost a little bit extra.

Acer is making a new name for itself in the computer industry. Even 10 years ago you might not have thought them a big contender in desktop computers, but the 2008 merger with Gateway and Packard Bell has changed things. Acer is now globally known as one of the big PC providers and is constantly expanding its presence.

This particular home computer has a lot going for it in the way of performance. The Acer Predator G3 has 6GB of RAM. While this isn't the best that you might see on a desktop computer, with this much memory you will be able to run several applications at a time without slowing your machine down. We were also pleased that the storage capacity of this computer is 1TB. You will be sure to have enough room for your documents, music and photos.

The processor of the Acer Predator G3 is an Intel Core i5-2300. The CPU speed is 2.8 GHz. The clock speed of the computer is 1.3 GHz, which is what you would expect for a home computer. These speeds are perfect if you want an all-around computer for surfing the web, watching a movie, touching up photos or working on your latest novel. The last performance factor we looked at was the video card. The machine comes installed with a GeForce GT 520 1GB. The memory allotted to the card is sufficient for most games, but that is the nice thing about purchasing a desktop computer – changing graphics cards or adding memory is easy.

When it comes to the features of the Acer Predator G3, there are quite a few ups, and a single down. The only downside we see to this home computer is that it doesn't come with a Blu-ray player, only a 16x DVD writer. That being said, it does come with plenty of other features that are well worth looking into. The first thing we liked was the number of ports available. There are 10 USB ports as well as an HDMI and a DVI port.

One of the big pluses of this desktop computer is that it comes all ready for wireless internet. All you need is the wireless router and you are good to go. Having internet available on your home computer wirelessly is a huge benefit because it is one less cable to worry about. If you don't have a wireless router, you can always plug it in using a cable. For other connectivity options, there is a memory card reader on top of the tower.

This computer is a little on the large side, but it isn't so big that it is cumbersome. It weighs almost 29 pounds. This isn't exactly light, but if you don't have to move it frequently, this won't be a problem. The physical size of the tower is 16.5 x 7.1 x 17.2 inches. What we really like about this machine is how sleek it actually looks. The simple color scheme of a red highlight contrasts nicely with the black gray of the rest of the tower. The smooth casing keeps all of the ports covered on the front except for the top, which houses the memory card reader. All in all, it is a classy, unique design.

The support for this Acer home computer is the weak spot. We feel that with any complex electronic device you need to have support close on hand in case something goes wrong. We were pleased with the live chat option, which gives you instant communication with support personnel. There is also an option for you to email the company if you have a question regarding your Acer Predator G3.

While we do appreciate the help and support that is offered, we thought that charging for phone support was a bit much. If your computer is on the fritz and won't connect to the internet, you have no choice but to pay for their help. It isn't too expensive but it is an additional cost. This desktop computer does come with a one-year limited warranty so if anything fails because of a manufacturer's defect you are covered.

Acer Predator G3 Summary:
9.4/10

When looking for a home computer that comes with all the features you might need, the Acer Predator G3 is a great machine. It has quite a bit of RAM so you can keep multiple applications up and running as well as a nice chunk of storage for all of your files. We were impressed that it comes with wireless already enabled. The main downside is that it only comes with a DVD writer and not a Blu-ray player, but the great thing about desktop computers is how easy it is to update them as needed.
