Acer Unveils Big Laptop with Core i7 Processor

If you’re the kind of person who scoffs at ultraportables and netbooks, you just might be interested in the latest laptop to come from Acer. The Acer Aspire 8940 doesn’t bother with being compact, instead opting for an enormous 18.4-inch LED-backlit display. The screen isn’t the only impressive thing about this laptop, though. It’s got the guts to match.
The Acer Aspire 8040 is packing the Core i7 quad-core processor recently released by Intel, so it can keep up with just about anything you want to throw at it. It also comes with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB of storage and a Blu-ray disc drive. As if that isn’t enough, you even get the touch-sensitive media controls Acer includes next to the keyboard on some laptops as well as surround sound through 5 built-in speakers. You know you’ve got a monster laptop if it’s packing surround sound.
Of course, all those features don’t come cheap. The Acer Aspire 8940 will cost you $1350. The good news is that it’s significantly cheaper than a similarly sized version from HP. It doesn’t have a solid release date, but should be available for the holidays.
