The HP Pavilion comes from a line of laptops that range from low-end cheap laptops to high-end premium laptops. Even though the premium model comes with an Intel i7 processor, you will only achieve processing speeds up to 2.7GHz with it, which is slower than some of the best laptops we’ve reviewed.
The basic models of the Pavilion will feature 8GB of RAM, but that can be upgraded up to 16GB of memory. With this upgrade you will achieve as much memory as the top-rated devices in our review. You can also upgrade your storage from 750GB all the way up to 2TB with dual hard drives.
In some models of the Pavilion you will begin with an Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics card. This is a standard graphics card that does well with streaming video and webcam chat, but it’s not recommended for gaming use. Like most other components, you can choose to upgrade your graphics card to a GeForce GT 650M graphics card if you want more for multimedia purposes.
The HP Pavilion boasts a 1600 x 900-pixel display and comes in 15- and 17-inch models. The display is large enough that you can enjoy movies, TV shows or simply web surfing. While the pixel resolution is not the highest available, it is what you would expect to find on a basic laptop computer and provides sharp and vibrant images. This device can work more than five hours on one charge, which is decent.
The basic model of the HP Pavilion series includes Wi-Fi. There is also a media card reader located on the device, along with three USB ports, a VGA port and an HDMI port. The HDMI port is a large benefit as it allows you to connect the laptop to a larger monitor or an HDTV for a more enhanced viewing experience.
In addition, there is a webcam and a built-in microphone on this device for video chatting. There is no Blu-ray drive included in the basic model of the Pavilion, but it is an optional add-on when you're configuring the laptop.
HP offers excellent customer support to its laptop users. If any questions or technical problems arise, you can contact a customer service representative through email, phone or live chat support. There is a user forum on the HP website where you can get additional assistance and feedback from other HP users. This device also comes with a one-year warranty.
There are a few areas where this device could see some improvements, including faster processor speeds. But if you are looking for a basic laptop that will help you accomplish everyday tasks, this is a fine choice.
You can upgrade the storage on the Pavilion to 2TB.
The 2.7GHz processing speed isn’t up to par with top-tier laptops.
