Nokia Moving into Laptops
The lines between gadgets performing specific functions has already been significantly blurred, and now manufacturers are looking to blur their production lines as well. Nokia, world-renowned cell phone maker, has announced that they might move into the PC industry. The responsibilities of phones and computers have already merged. In the future we'll probably see less and less of a distinction between a phone and a computer. So Nokia is jumping on that bandwagon pretty early on starting with a foray into laptops. Maybe they figure they've already conquered one facet of the electronics market and now it's time to move on to another.
Other PC makers like Acer and HP have announced they will be making smartphones, so it's good to see the phone manufacturers are also expanding their fields. Nokia has already put mini computers in their smartphones, so it's logical for them to move to netbooks and on to laptops.
Sure they are entering a market that already has a lot of contenders, but Nokia is in a unique position where it's starting out fairly far up the food chain. Nokia already has in place a system for manufacturing, supply chain and distribution of their cell phones. They also have huge name brand recognition which will inspire an element of trust for the average laptop user. They can take all of this and apply it to their new laptop products.
