Microsoft Might Announce Their New Alternative to Google Chrome OS

Just hours after Google announced their intention to release Google Chrome OS (a new OS designed specifically for web-centric computing) to the world, rumors have surfaced that Microsoft has plans to announce a very similar program at the Worldwide Partner Conference next week.
The rumor started when Robert Scoble commented on his FriendFeed account that Google announced Chrome OS this week because Microsoft plans to make a big announcement on Monday. Adding to the suspense, Scoble says he can’t explain more because he’s embargoed. Oh those tech news embargoes, nothing get’s the rumor mills going faster.
Of course, he didn’t say that Microsoft’s announcement would be for anything similar to Chrome OS. Some have speculated that the Gazelle browser may be the candidate for announcement since it has a built in OS for running web apps, similar to Chrome OS in concept, if not scope.
Regardless, Scoble just got us a lot more interested in a conference we would basically ignore otherwise. Microsoft has got to be loving this.
