CES Gadget Watch: iZ3D Monitor

We've been bringing you news, pics, rumors and an idea of what to expect from CES this January. There are going to be some pretty incredible gizmos on display. With video glasses, 500GB solid state hard drives, and the darkhorse Dell Adamo on their way to the CES showrooms, we're starting to think that the age of flying cars is upon us.
Because I'm a gamer, the prospect of actual 3D gaming is more exciting to me than any flying car could ever be.
I remember discovering the true joys of immersive media watching Michael Jackson's Thriller in 3D at Disneyland circa 1992-an 8 year old boy with tears streaming out from under red and blue glasses, mouth agape, hands waving around to touch zombie appendages, convinced that MJ was in fact a benevolent deity.
Enough about Michael Jackson's beatific dance moves and back to 3D gaming. We're going to see a demo of the iZ3D gaming monitor at CES in Las Vegas next week. This is good news for gamers because CES is a little short on gamer gadgetry this year.
The iZ3D monitor is 22-inches and works in conjunction with 3D glasses to make PC games you know and love three dimensional. We're not talking about the blurry double vision and cardboard glasses of the "3D" NES game World Runner here. The iZ3D is calibrated to individual games for a smooth and convincing experience. The glasses aren't the old-fashioned blue-red lens getup either. Instead, they're polarized glasses that manage to be pretty stylish.
The list of supported games for the iZ3D monitor ain't half bad. You can get your 3D on with Battlefield 2142, Call of Duty 4, Far Cry, Crysis, Half Life 2, Portal... the list goes on and on. I'm excited to give this mother a try. And reading over the specs and press on the iZ3D display, I'm salivating a bit over the flame and skeleton-themed custom paint jobs available. Plain black-bezeled monitors are so Windows 98.
We'll be sure to let you know how the iZ3D performs at CES. In the meantime, I'll be stretching my ASDW fingers for some fully 3D S.T.A.L.K.E.R. We've got reviews of the biggest, flattest, and fastest monitors for you on our computer review site.
