I'm accompanied here today by the Acer Aspire One D250 netbook and wanted to give you a brief overview of its features. Visually, the D250 is a sleek and slender machine. It's simple, elegant, and includes the standard netbook components ñ Intel Atom N270 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB of memory, 160GB hard disk drive, and integrated Intel audio & video solutions. The unit is sturdy and carries like a small college textbook, maybe lighter and certainly more chic. Upon opening the netbook, you'll find a power button, some LED-lit indicator lights, black keyboard and trackpad that blends seamlessly with the units color. Black keyboard with subtle blue text on keys activated by the FN key. The bottom is flat black and provides access to the unit's memory, hard disk drive and wireless cards. At 10.1 inches, the screen is enough room for most applications. Should any applications require a resolution of 1024x768 or higher these applications may have the top and/or bottom cut off from view if able to be run at all. This is just a good reminder to pay attention to the system requirements before committing to a software purchase. The D250's keyboard has been slightly miniaturized to 89% of a full-size keyboard. Women and children may not notice the shrunken keys but for others it may require some small adjustments. Additionally, the tactile feedback of the keys leaves a little to be desired. We also saw room for improvement regarding the touchpad's size. Although it supports multi-gesture commands similar to an iPhone it is so small that gestures are difficult to execute on the limited real estate. The D250's connectivity features round up the usual suspects 3 USB 2.0 ports, SVGA, microphone, headphone, Ethernet and AC adapter. This model also includes a memory card reader that supports MMC, MS, MSpro and SD expandable memory cards. Lastly, you'll find a security lock and wireless on/off switch. Like all netbooks, the Acer Aspire One D250 was designed to do the most common of tasks and not much more ñ that is to browse the web, send and receive email, listen to your audio playlists, watch standard definition video either streamed or played from the HDD, word processing, manipulate spreadsheets, and prepare presentations. While all of these are possible, the latter two may prove difficult on the limited screen size and resolution. At first glance the Acer Aspire One D250 is an extremely ordinary netbook with a little extra thought and care given to design and style. Looking further however, the it is very extraordinary once you consider the price tag. Pick up this 3-cell version that should last you nearly 2.5 hours for a mere $299 or pick up its 9-cell equivalent for only $50 more or $349. I'm NAME with TopTenREVIEWS and this has been our review of the Acer Aspire One D250 netbook.
