Rumors have been circulating that ASUS plans to release a tablet right along with every other company in the known universe. Now a new set of rumors are explaining more about the device, making it even more likely that we’ll see an ASUS tablet at CES 2010 in a few weeks.

Varied (and obviously anonymous) sources for Netbooknews have reported that an ASUS Eee Pad will be hitting the market with an NVIDIA Tegra chip inside, which is exciting news. It also helps explain the mysterious NVIDIA tablet concept that was revealed a while back.

The ASUS Eee Pad will reportedly also have multitouch capabilities, although that’s not necessarily earth-shattering news. Multitouch is basically a prerequisite for touchscreen technology these days. While these sources can’t confirm the operating system ASUS’s tablet will run, they can rule out Windows CE, which is a huge relief, indeed. They also reported that ASUS has a late launch date planned and that the Eee Pad will definitely not be hitting shelves before March 2010.

Curiously, Netbooknews’ sources did not comment on the 4- to 7-inch screen size rumors we heard previously, but they do promise more information is forthcoming. You can expect more on this from CES in early January, as well.
