How Will You Get Windows 7 On Your Netbook? Microsoft Considering Thumb Drives
I think Microsoft is in a little bit of an awkward situation right now. They've been touting and working with Windows 7 to make it THE OS for netbooks, they did all they could to make it run smoothly on the little guys. Microsoft even worked with PC manufacturers to make sure people who bought a PC now would be able to upgrade easily when Windows 7 hit store shelves. But, after all their work, they missed one little detail. Will you be able to get Windows 7 on your netbook?K, Windows 7 is out you run to the store, buy the CD and come flying back home, eager to put the latest and best OS on your netbook. You sit down in front of the netbooks relishing the feeling as you slowly slide the CD out of the envelope. With the OS in hand you turn to your netbook and ... pause. There isn't a CD drive ... there isn't a DVD drive. In fact, there doesn't really appear to be a way to get the long-coveted and heralded Windows 7 onto a previously owned netbook.
Do you trade it in? Well, you can if you'd like, but Microsoft is working on a way to make it work. Ina Fried with CNET named a number of ideas Microsoft is considering to get the OS on the netbook. From distributing thumb drives to ... well that's about all the ideas Microsoft has put forth. But there are other ways that include potentially downloading it or attaching your netbook to an external hard drive and loading it up that way.
So all is not lost ... just make sure to check for a CD drive before you rush down to the store. Then, keep up with the latest tech news with these other blog posts:
