Fujitsu’s LifeBook u810 has been called an Ultraportable Convertible Tablet, an Ultramobile PC, a Tablet PC, and a netbook. Since some netbooks will soon also have tablet PC functionality, and the LifeBook is endowed with powerful components in a tiny package, we decided the LifeBook was best suited for the netbook category.
That kind of miniaturization costs more than even the most powerful netbooks, as evident with the LifeBook’s high price tag. Specs include an 800MHz Intel A110 processor, 1GB of RAM, built-in Bluetooth, LAN, and Wi-Fi (b/g). The 40GB hard drive is adequate for such a small computer, and the 4-cell battery pack can power the LifeBook for up to 5 hours under optimum conditions.
The 5.6 inch touch screen is a good size for a tablet PC, but compared to other netbooks it’s tiny. Like most tablets the screen pivots a full 360 degrees. It has one USB port, an SD card reader, and nifty lights that shine on the keyboard, making working the dark easier. For the social bug in you, the LifeBook has a built-in webcam and mic, but typing on the keyboard will take some getting used to. Traditional typing is difficult, but hunt and peck typists will find the LifeBook nicely accommodating.
If you need a tablet PC that nearly fits in your pocket, the Fujitsu LifeBook u810 is your best bet – if you can get past the price.
