Sony VAIO P Getting Specs Update?

The Sony VAIO P netbook, we mean laptop ... ultraportable (I wonder how long it will take before that joke isn't funny anymore?) had a successful coming out into society, so it's no surprise that there is already speculation that a new model will be out this summer. From the looks of things, and rumors floating around, we think there will be a few tweaks on the hardware.



According to Sony Insider, an online magazine that exists to spread rumors about Sony products (an effort we laud), Sony has some new model numbers for their VAIO P that's set to hit this summer. The original VAIO P has a 500 designation (i.e. VGN-P530H/B). But these new models are going to be in the 700 series. That's usually Sony's M.O. when they put out new models with updated specs. They'll change the model numbers a little too (think Sony Readers PRS 505 and 700).

The new model numbers don't show anything too exciting - VGN-P710T/B. No big deal, new model in black. Got it. But the one that has the rumor mills going is the VGN-P730A/Q and VGN-P730T/Q. We're pretty certain it won't be a total redesign, but the "Q" probably means some sort of hardware update like a faster CPU, RAM or something along those lines.

We're sure as soon as new information surfaces we'll be able to pick up more of the thread, until then we'll just content ourselves with the hope that with the new hardware updates the Sony VAIO P netbook ... ultraportable (still funny) will have a price drop sometime soon as well.
