Sprint's $0.99 Netbook Not Worth It?
We’re not entirely certain what to think about Sprint and Compaq’s teaming up. You can get a Compaq netbook for $0.99 with a 2-year activation. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal especially when you see that Verizon and AT&T are offering the same netbook for $200. Sounds pretty sweet, get a netbook for under a buck. But is it really all that great?
First off, why not just make it free? It seems like charging $0.99 is just overkill, but whatever. In the end, you’re still getting ripped off, you end up paying more than $1,000. Not worth it for any netbook, but especially not this one. No offense, but really: 1.6GHz Intel Atom, 1GB RAM and a 160GB hard drive. All you’re doing is giving Sprint your money. There is no way that could even be worth it. At least my cell phones work like I want them to, this netbook would hardly be worth it.
Go for a MiFi or something else along those lines. It’ll probably make you happier in the long run and you won’t feel like you’re paying so much out of pocket to Sprint for a netbook that probably won’t last the full two years.
Or get the service. After all, you can tell all your friends you got a netbook for under $1. Either way, it’s up to you.
